2009 "AWARD OF EXCELLENCE" CONTEST
For Romance Novels Published in 2008
ATTENTION PUBLISHED NOVELISTS!
Colorado Romance Writers is pleased to announce its annual "Award of Excellence" Contest for authors of books in the following categories:
CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS
Short Contemporary ~ Romantic novels under 60,000 words, including Traditional
Long Contemporary ~ Romantic novels over 60,000 words, including Category Suspense.
Single Title Contemporary Releases ~ Romantic novels not printed as part of a series.
Romantic Suspense ~ Romantic novels with a mystery/suspense element.
Historical ~ Historical romance novels, including Regencies, Series and Single Title Historical
Paranormal/Time Travel/Futuristic/Fantasy ~ Romantic novels featuring any or all of these elements.
Inspirational ~ Romantic novels featuring an inspirational message of personal faith conveyed as a major element of the plot and not used as a plot device.
Mainstream With Romantic Elements ~ A work of fiction not belonging in another category that contains a strong romantic element, such that one or more romances contained in the story form an integral part of the story’s structure, but in which other themes or stories may also be significantly developed.
Spicy Romance ~ Romantic novels featuring sexual content and language that is explicit and leaves nothing to the imagination. No pedophilia; no rape as titillation; no necrophilia; no knives or stabbing weapons used in or on various parts of the female anatomy; no beastiality—this refers to common animals indigenous to earth. Please contact the coordinator, preferably by email, for detailed definitions/information.
Entries will be judged by readers, booksellers or authors. A minimum of five (5) total entries per category must be received for the category to be viable. Finalists will be notified by April 1, 2009. Books in each category scoring the highest total points will advance to the final round. Winners will be announced in May 2009 at our Romancing the Rockies Conference. Winners will receive a trophy. All finalists will receive a certificate.

ENTRY RULES
1. All novels [no anthologies or novellas] entered must have an original copyright date of 2008.
2. There is no limit to the number of entries or categories in which a single author's work may be entered, provided each is accompanied by appropriate fee, (3) three copies of each title and a completed official entry form with a signature. No entry shall be entered in more than one category.
3. Entries will be accepted from anyone (author, editor, reader, etc.) as long as a completed entry form, together with fees and books, are submitted.
4. An official entry consists of three copies of each title entered, an official entry form, and a fee of $20.00 for each submission. Make check payable to Colorado Romance Writers. If using PayPal, please include your name, book title and category in the "Optional Instructions" section of the payment form.
5. CRW will accept e-published books. Entry must meet ALL the category requirements as outlined in the above rules with the following change for submission: It is preferred the entrant supply three (3) contest-quality book copies, however, if book copies are unavailable, CRW will accept three (3) bound galleys of the entry.

All fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and must accompany your novel. Checks or money orders should be made payable to COLORADO ROMANCE WRITERS. Or use the Paypal options below. Please type your name, book title and category before clicking on the PayPal button to complete your entry.
NOTE For Paypal Entries: When you submit your entry and form, please indicate you used Paypal. Entries received without an enclosed payment or prior to payment through Paypal will be returned.
